On the Roads: Hollywood Railroad Museum hard to track down despite sign

Why does the traffic signal on westbound Clint Moore Road at Lyons Road west of Boca Raton prohibit left turns when east-west traffic is moving through the intersection? — Gilbert Kossoy, Delray Beach

Westbound Clint Moore has dual left-turn lanes. The other three approaches to the intersection have single left-turn lanes.

It's standard practice on most roads with dual left-turn lanes. When drivers get a left-turn arrow, the opposing traffic gets a red light. Drivers can only turn left with the arrow.

That's because with two left-turn lanes, it's harder to see oncoming traffic.

Why is the right lane of westbound McNab Road at Nob Hill Road in Tamarac marked for right turns only? The right lane continues west of Nob Hill, and it would help traffic flow if drivers could use it to go straight. — Genora Lott, Tamarac

Broward County officials studied the intersection in 2007 and found about the same number of drivers continue west on McNab as those turning right on Nob Hill in the midday and evening rush hours.

The only exception was in the morning rush hour.

The county will restudy the intersection this fall to see if any changes should be made.

On eastbound Hollywood Boulevard at the entrance to the Amtrak station, the city of Hollywood has a sign pointing to a railroad museum that does not exist. Why have a sign that confuses motorists to a non-existent attraction? — Charles Dunn, Coral Gables

The sign directs visitors to the Hollywood Railroad Museum in the train station and the Big Pine & Sawgrass Model Railroad Association clubhouse on the south side of the street.

Plans for a museum, which called for renovating a room inside the train station, never got off the ground.
